Simply stated, waterproof flooring is any floor covering that is completely impervious to and will receive no damage from, water. It sounds pretty simple, but there remains a bit of confusion as to what really is impervious to water, and what is only resistant to water.
Water resistant flooring will stand up to spills, moisture and humidity to a certain degree. However, after a certain amount of time, usually about 72 hours or so, the water will eventually soak into the flooring. Over time, you will begin to see the damage that can cause.
A truly waterproof floor covering will have a core that is not affected by water, or will completely stop the intrusion of water in the first place. Some of the types of flooring you might expect to see in this niche, include luxury vinyl, tile and some natural stone materials. If you’re looking for 100% waterproof floors, be sure to convey this to your flooring specialist.
As you might expect, this floor covering is very easy to clean and maintain. In fact, in most cases, all you’ll need to do is sweep up existing dirt and debris, and then follow that with a mop dampened with warm water.
